Portraits and profile photos
Turn a tight headshot into a square or vertical frame with room above the head, or give a cropped selfie more shoulders and background. The face stays untouched because it is inside the original area.
AI IMAGE EDITOR
An AI image expander adds new picture area around a photo. Upload an image, pick a target aspect ratio and where the original should sit, and ViNano fills the empty space with matching background, light and texture. Your original pixels are pasted back after generation instead of being redrawn, so faces, products and text inside the photo stay as they were.
Upload a photo. JPG, PNG and WebP work; you can also paste an image from the clipboard.
Pick an aspect ratio such as 16:9 or 9:16, add extra space if you want a wider view, and choose where the original sits. The checkered area in the preview is what the AI will fill.
Describe what should appear in the new area if you have something in mind, then click Expand image. Download the result or expand it again for an even wider frame.
The same AI photo expander works for most everyday pictures. These are the jobs it handles well, and what to watch for.
Turn a tight headshot into a square or vertical frame with room above the head, or give a cropped selfie more shoulders and background. The face stays untouched because it is inside the original area.
Add clean space around a product so it fits a 1:1 marketplace tile or a wide banner, and leave room for text. Describe the surface, such as a white table or a marble counter, for a consistent result.
Widen a vertical phone photo into 16:9 for a desktop wallpaper or a video thumbnail. Skies, water, sand and grass are the easiest areas for AI to continue.
Reframe a horizontal picture as 9:16 for Stories, Reels or Shorts without cutting anything out. Put the original at the top or bottom to leave space for captions.
Choose the ratio of the place where the picture will be shown. The expander supports these seven ratios, plus extra space at the original ratio.
| Ratio | Shape | Typical uses |
|---|---|---|
| 1:1 | Square | Profile pictures, marketplace product tiles, square feed posts |
| 16:9 | Wide | YouTube video thumbnails, desktop wallpapers, slides and web banners |
| 9:16 | Tall | Stories, Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts thumbnails, phone wallpapers |
| 4:3 | Slightly wide | Many phone camera photos, tablets, classic presentation slides |
| 3:4 | Slightly tall | Vertical phone photos, portrait posts |
| 3:2 | Wide photo | Many DSLR and mirrorless cameras, 4×6 in prints, blog header images |
| 2:3 | Tall photo | Pinterest Pins, posters, 4×6 in portrait prints |
Platform ratios come from YouTube Help (16:9 for video thumbnails, 9:16 for Shorts) and Pinterest Business help (2:3, 1000 × 1500 px), checked on November 6, 2026.
After the AI draws the new picture, ViNano uses a mask to copy your original pixels back into place. Only a thin blended strip along the border is mixed so the seam does not show.
Everything in the checkered area is new: the AI continues the background, light and perspective from the edges of your photo. It may invent details that were never there, so check the edges before you use the result.
The output is the full expanded canvas. If it is larger than the selected size (2,000 px on the long side for 1K, 4,000 px for 2K), the whole canvas is scaled down first, including your photo.
These three tools are often confused. Use the one that matches what you need to change.
| Tool | What it changes | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| AI image expander | Adds new picture area outside the photo; the original stays in place | The frame is too tight or the ratio is wrong for where you post |
| AI inpainting | Redraws a region you paint inside the photo | You want to remove or replace an object without changing the frame |
| Image resizer | Changes the pixel dimensions; adds no new content | The ratio is already right and you only need other dimensions |
Each expansion uses credits. The button shows the exact amount before you start, and credits are deducted only when an image is returned.
| Output size | Model | Paid account | Free account |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1K | Nano Banana | 15 | 25 |
| 1K | Nano Banana Pro | 80 | Paid accounts only |
| 2K | Nano Banana Pro | 100 | Paid accounts only |
| 4K | Nano Banana Pro | 150 | Paid accounts only |
A paid account means any credit pack or plan. See pricing for credit packs.
Expanding an image uses credits: 25 credits for a 1K result on a free account and 15 on a paid account. New accounts receive free sign-up credits (50 for most email providers), so you can try it after you sign in.
No. The original area is copied back from your upload after generation, so only the new area is AI-generated. A thin strip along the border is blended to hide the seam.
They are two names for the same tool. Both describe outpainting: extending a picture beyond its original edges. This page works for photos, illustrations and screenshots alike.
1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 3:2, 2:3, 16:9 and 9:16. You can also keep the original ratio and add 25%, 50% or 100% more space around the photo.
Yes. After a result appears, click Expand this result again to use it as the new starting photo. Expanding in a few smaller steps often looks more natural than one very large jump.
Each expansion runs on an AI model and uses credits, so you need an account. You can upload a photo and preview the layout before signing in.
